art of the imagination

Posted 23rd November 2006 at 4:30 pm

There was a time i really enjoyed writing poetry pieces or rants…haven’t done much of that in the last 2.5+ yrs. I’ve been based in West Africa. I guess it’s because of the hectic work schedule or pure and utter laziness…anyway, whatever the cause, I was clearing my office drawer today and found a piece I wrote a couple of years ago, a week after my birthday after a loooooooooooong moment of written introspection.

Life

Like a river flowing through rocks
it is beset with beauty, turmoil and
junctions that alter it’s course into
unchartered and unfathomed moments,
only to spring up in ideally tranquil bliss

Like a musician’s instrument, it plays with
a great intensity that culminates into a
peacefully orchestrated piece full of joy,
pains, and rythm only to come back
and hit at your soul’s core with an enchanting beat

Like the fluttering of a candle’s flame,
it swings with the simplest change in the flow of
air, but returns itself to a relative calm
at the most serendipitous of moments filled
with it’s uncompromising strength and stability.

Africa IS open for business

So the BBC has been running this series this week on whether Africa is open/ready for business. In my opinion, I think it’s ripe and ready and it’s definitely time we started building or enhancing our entrepreneurial spirit on the continent. I had the chance of watching a documentary called Africa Open for Business earlier this year and I must say, definitely inspiring stuff by all the businesses featured! So to all my brothers and sisters still away from the continent, I say, come home and setup something! The small business sector’s growing and this is one of the best times to get into business in a lot of countries on the continent. I believe if we do not take the initiative to build our businesses, then the continent will be left behind for a good time to come. Several governments have began improving their policies towards small businesses and we can only hope that this trend continues all across the continent.
